"Christian, you cannot take on a lycan by yourself,"Julian said catching his arm.

"Do not touch me, brother!" Christian hissed as fire lit his eyes.

    Jane Bites Back: A Novel

    Title: Jane Bites Back
    Author: Michael Thomas Ford
    Pages: 320
    Publisher: Ballantine Books
    Release Date:Original edition - 12/29/2009
    ISBN-13: 978-0345513656

    The Summary

200 years after her undeath and Jane Austen is still among the books she loves but she isn't surrounded merely by her own books but the books of other authors as well. She is the owner of Flyleaf Books in the sleepy college town of Brakeston located in Upper State New York were she gets to witness her books fly off the shelf...along with other unauthorized sequels, spin-offs and adaptations...which she doesn't see a damn cent from!

To make things worse, the manuscript she finished before becoming a vampire has been rejected by 116 publishers. Why can't the great Jane Austen get published? Has she lost her thunder? Perhaps not. An email and a visit to New York City later proves she hasn't. Her book suddenly puts the spotlight back on the great Austen and she must protect her real identity at all costs while of course managing her bookstore, fending off a dark man from her past and dealing with her current flame(s). What's an undead girl to do? Will this historically renowned author keep her cool in this comedy of manners or will she show everyone not to mess with a women with a sharp wit and an even sharper set of fangs?

    The Review

When I first received this book in the mail from the publishing company, I was kind of iffy about it. Jane Austen...a vampire. What? Ok, this is going to be so hokey...but it wasn't! It was such a great book, an easy read and a sure page turner. I had a hard time putting it down after getting into it. I have to admit though, I've never read a Jane Austen book but heard that Michael Thomas Ford doesn't copy her writing style in anyway...which might amount to someone that is going to pick up this book sooner or later. I'd recommend this book to any vampire romance reader...though it is kind of lacking in the hot and heavy sex scene I'm used to reading in most Vampire romance, but it wasn't missed. Ford did such a good job with this, it's more of a romantic comedy than anything...which I happen to freakin' love!

Ford had a way with words and knew what I like to read. Reading his writing was such a treat, both witty and entertaining at all times.

Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford

    Jane Bites Back: A Novel

"Why would that be bad for you?" asked Jane.

Walter sighed. "You'll be a big success," he said. "I'll be the small-town contractor who can't offer you anything."

-Michael Thomas Ford, Jane Bites Back, Page 161

That's that, I hope you enjoy this read if you end up picking it up...I'm sure enjoying it, I'm currently on page 260 after about a week of reading on and off and it gets pretty hard to put down!

I'm currently catching up on emails I've gotten throughout the semester. I'm so sorry about not responding to the emails fast enough. I should be getting some new books in from publishers and authors alike so I can review more during my break...and I also need to pay my fine from the local library so I can check out more books. Oops. :< I forgot about several books and then asked my other half to turn them in and my other half forgot about them for a day. And that's how fines happen, kiddos. Anyhow!

An update on the "Latest Books In" should be put up as soon as I receive books, either next week or the week after, I'm guessing. I'm going to start doing more things here such as "Teaser Tuesdays", I got the idea from another blog...though I don't remember which since there are a lot of peeps that do it such as Violet at Eager Reader and Felicia at Geeky Blogger's Book Blog...WAIT! Ok...I found the source of the meme apparently. Credit should go to MizB at Should Be Reading. Oh, I hope that's right. :) Anyhow, I'm going to be posting the "Teaser Tuesday" tonight since it's officially Tuesday and all. Along with those two new things, I'll be posting some interviews if I can get in contact with someones that's willing. I also want to start doing giveaways, so if any of you authors/publishers want to send books/promotional pieces my way for giveaways, just email me and I'll send you the address to the PV Headquarters.

I'm also going to update some of the sections, such as the Contact Me and Submit a Review pages. Along with those section updates, I'm going to add a page called "Promotions" so that authors and publishers alike can promote their books on the site for the readers. "Review/Rating Policy" will also be posted as well as an "About" page that for some reason I haven't posted yet. I think that's about it for now...if I decided to update anything else, you guys will be notified via a post so you can see all the new things happening at PV.

    Take care,
    Josie

Edit// First sighted the "Teaser Tuesday" at Addicted to Romance, one of the blogs I follow.

Our upcoming reviews include Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford and Predatory Angel by Shaylynn Black each story suits different needs. Jane Bites Back is clever and witty while I'm guessing Predatory Angel is more action than romance, really. We'll see.

Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford

    Jane Bites Back: A NovelDescription
"Ford's (Last Summer) fang-tastic satire of the Jane Austen craze catches up with Elizabeth Jane Fairfax, the undead 233-year-old author and owner of an upstate New York book store. She's disgusted by the Pride and Prejudice knockoffs that fly out of her store (poor Jane hasn't seen a royalty check in almost 200 years), and her last manuscript's been rejected by 116 publishers. Things start to look up when she finally gets a deal for the book, but two problems arise as she's promoting Constance: Lord Byron, who turned Jane, wants her back; and Violet Grey, a vitriolic Brontë blogger, accuses Jane of stealing Charlotte Brontë's last unsold manuscript. Ford's Jane is a very fun and funny heroine to root for as she endures the indignities of publishing and bookselling, fends off danger and (perhaps) finds love. Her hilarious smack downs with Violet hint of more madness to come in this first of a series." -Amazon.com

If I had to review on the spot:

This books seems really fun and clever. I've picked it up but haven't got the chance to read it cover to cover yet because of life and school. Currently on page 28 and enjoying the read, so far I'd give this a good review. Let's wait and see how this book goes. Stay tune for the review.

    Predatory Angel by Shaylynn Black

    Predatory AngelDescription

"Catya hunts the beast that has been dumping bodies and terrorizing her city. She has done so night after night for the last eight years. Little does she know that tonight is the night that everything changes. Tonight is the night that she meets Christian, who is a vampire, her mortal enemy. She must escape him before he realizes what she is, but she finds herself too drawn to him to leave. Before she knows it, she is fighting at his side, for not only her life, but his as well. They can only depend on hope to get them through the bloody battle ahead. The only question is, will they make it out alive?" -Amazon.com

If I had to review on the spot:

I've honestly tried picking this book up several times and each time I haven't been able to enjoy it. I don't know if it's the writing style or all the questions I keep encountering while reading this book. If I had to review it right now...it probably wouldn't get that great of a review only because I've tried reading the bloody thing so many times without being able to get past the first  few chapters or so. I'm going to try it again during my winter break...and if I don't like it, I'll voice it.
